I Don't Speak Chinese: Money!

Growing up, responsibility has be instilled at a very young age. I was exposed to a materialistic culture and the cost that comes with it. I remember wanting money to buy many things when I was young- in particular, the cutesy stationary sets that every asian girl wanted. Not to mention those sparkly star folding strips *_*. I remember begging for it and being told (by my mother I think) that when I earn my own money I can get whatever I wanted (soon a statement she regrets saying) So then I got a job as a newspaper courier for my street and bought everything cute and asian : ) In conjunction I felt that with money, lifestyles become tighter and more restricted, especially when dealing with such high density countries such as China.

I Don't Speak Chinese: Wrinkles

Growing up, it was all about fitting in for me. Not being able to speak chinese pushed me to find other areas of comfort when it came to socialization and life. It was like simplifying the complicated. There were too many wrinkles in my dumplings and perogies happened to be delicious.

Matter, Composed: I Don't Speak Chinese

I know this is a late post, but thanks to everyone who made it to the Matter, Composed. show! The support meant a lot- made for a great closing reception! Apologies for the dim pictures. Below are the pieces I exhibited. I decided to get a little hands on and make some sumo sculptures. It was great to show alongside amazing artists and recent graduates of OCADU, Marta, Jeannie, Thary, Gwen and Lena

I Don't Speak Chinese: Bruce Pee

Often I would be questioned about my relation with Bruce Lee (since we share the same last name) Sometimes it was posed as a literal question, other times it was just use as an awkward yet racist ice breaker. The idea of being related to Bruce Lee is absolutely absurd in my opinion. I can't even hurt a fly let alone kick ninja ass.
